Provoking students by displaying some cultural artifacts in the calssroom.
Students could explore and build their own inquiry.

WHAT IS CULTURE?


—Something that is created and agreed by all people in certain place, and it’s owned by that people.
—It’s a treasure, that is a part of our cultural memory.


Go for an excursion around Surabaya.
Students went to Siola, Surabaya Musium. They learn about SOERABAYA TEMPO DOELOE, include the MAJOR of Surabaya since Deutch Colonialsm.
Learn Bahasa Jawa, also became part of the excursion agenda. They praciced to speak Javanese in BALAI PEMUDA.

Some students have a chnace to share their knowledge about element of cultures. THey brings artifacts or books and articles related with cultures, and share to their friends.
FRom this activities, students got new knowedge about Wayang WOng, Wayang Kulit, Gendang, Dakon, ect.
What can contribute to the varied culture in Surabaya?


Students were provoked by questions displayed on Questiona Board. They might have some discussion with their parents and/or find information at home before the class discussion on the folloeing day. These prior-knowledge is useful for the students to connect to the concept of cause and effect. Surabaya has different kinds of culture, and it is becoming a unique city because of some influences.

This video is great to lead the students into the understanding of connection concept. They could think that there are some factors that contribute to a city.
The present of China Town, Kampung Arab, and some of the languages are heard in Surabaya, different kinds of foods can be found, or some other things that actually are not originally from Surabaya. Those make Surabaya colorful.
