Lines of Inquiry:

The central idea of this unit is brake down into more specific inquiries:

  • How body systems work and are interdependent

  • Factors that affect our body systems

  • Actions to keep our body systems healthy

Prior-Knowledge:

Brainstorm their understanding about human body is the kick start of the unit.  How each of body part do their job can be one of first fi finding information.  Some research and exploration are conducting in the classroom and at home.  They might interview their parents, do some research in the internet and books, and do some experiments.

What might support the learning:

Students are divided into 4 groups based on their inquiry.  There are 4 groups  of intyerest, where they can learn deeper about certain body system.  They are:

  • Nervous  system
  • Respiratory system
  • Muscular and skeletal systems
  • Digestive System

In each inquiry class, students learn more about how does the system works, each of body part that works in particular system, what  common diseases  related with that system, and the causes.  For instatnce, in the muscular and skeletal system students are expected to create a model of skeleton, and should be able to explain  how many muscular in human body and how they work together with skeletal.  Nervous system group, is expected to draw brain and explain what the function of each part .  similar with the two previous systems . students in digestive and respiratory systems have the same expectations.

Understanding how our body works enhances our health and well being

Body is a highly efficient machine, wonderfully packed inside the skin, and good health is natural and normal.  All of the body parts and the systems inside the body work collaborativelly.  In this unit, PYP 4 learn to understand how our body works enhances our health and well being.

Students have the address that is written on their communication book and they need to watch and search about 4 lobes of cerebrum and the function.  This is the homework to find more information about those things.

Students have to take a note about the information given on the template provided by teacher.

In the school they have to share their finding in the class discussion.
