Math in Who We Are

In this unit students learn math in terms of numbers which is being applied in Place Value, read and write numbers, order and compare numbers, and measurement.  Data handling is one of the focus  in this unit.  They learn to record data and interpret data from pictograph and Carroll Diagram.I'm a paragraph. PLACE AND VALUE to

COMPARE AND ORDER NUMBERS

Is important for students to understand the value of number.  Why is 294 is less than 492?  Students will understand that each number on different place have their own value.

We write numbers using only ten symbols (called Digits), and  where we place them will give the number into different value.

457 < 745

654 > 456

165 = 165

What's happening in PYP 2B Classroom?

Flipped classroom is applied in this learning engagement.  I send home the video link for them to watch in the previous day.  On the nxt day, students are required to have prior-knowledge about things will be discussed on the day.

COMPARING NUMBERS:

Using Ten-Base Blocks students understand the value of each numbre based on their place.  Then they are challanged to compare numbers.  Thhey are given a number card to compare with other cards. It was good for them to develop their social skills as well they are learning to have a good social helath in this unit.

ORDERING NUMBERS:

Work in small group  to arangge the number cards ascending and descending.  Then thet may take notes on their math book.

MEASUREMENT

Students are provoked by asking them how to know that they are healthy.  They grow tall and heavy are the indication of beaning healthy.  Students measure their height and weight.  They start to think of their prior-knowledge about measuring.  I lead a class discussion for only 5-10 minutes, then I

can grasp who needs more time to tune into measurement (no idea about measurement) or who has good prior-knowledge about it.

Students explore stuff related with measurement.  I provided measuring tapes and some different scales on tables.  They can observe what the can see in scale and how they use them.

Finally students come up with the units, and how to measure using appropriate tools.

ESTIMATE AND COMPARE

  • Students were given different tools and different objects to be measured.

  • They may compare their height and weight, and any other objects.

  • Use math terms or language to compare.

Watching some movies to get more ifnormation about measurement.

 What can be measured?

How to measure something big?

What is the difference between

Cm and M or Km?
