Students use calendar to identify dates, days and months, They learn to compare the length of the days, weeks and months, and in the end they come up with smaller units of meausring time, clock.
Differentiation in teaching strategy:
Students have their own style of learning and phase. As a teacher, I try to accomodate the way they learn based on the needs.
Sing some calendars songs, could be one of strategy to accomodate the learning style of my students with audio and visual learning to memorize months and the order.
Using flash cards to identify the sequence of days and months in a year is good to help some visual learners, too. Asking students to touch and move the cards give them experience to memorize days and month.
MATH in How We Organize Ourselves
MEASUREMENT:
Calendar helps us to plan and organize ourlives.

The length of the day, week, month is the hard part for students to understand. Challange students by giving some problem solving stimulate them to learn more about the concept of time.
Play and sing together...!!
Students are provoked to think how they use addition and subtraction in their real lifes.
The ideas come up from the students about how addition and subtraction are applied in their real life, such as when they lost something, when they buy some products and their money is getting less, when some friends in the classroom are absent, ect.
What happens in the classroom?
Brainstorming the related words to addition and subtraction give the students more information about vocabularies. They learn how to read a word problem by underlining the keywords.
Organize their thinking when reading the word problems by writing the information, the questions, the solution, and the conclusion.
