Where We are in Place and Time

I teach my students all about pictograph by beginning the lesson with a survey of their birth place. I connect this lesson with the unit of inquiry. THen brainstorm how to organize the data on paper.
SOms students might come up with the idea of their prior-knowledge about graph or chart to organize data, such as Carroll Diagram or T-chart. An explanation of pictographs is shown to them. Showing pictures of pictograph and watching a video tells about it.
Students are given opportunities to have several questions, such as: How many more?, Who has the fewest?, How many combined in all?.

What do we survey?
Students do survey to get data from their friends. They interviewed their friends, so they can learn how to communicate, ask question properly, and to record the data in tally mark. Students need to ensure that the number of participants or interviwee are match with the total number of their data.
Teacher lead the discussion to get the idea of the survey, the ways to collect data and the questions might be used.
Then, they were encouraged to make their own table of Pictograph.
Peer-assessment is a good way to check their friends result and they can do a reflection by learning from someone's job.
VENN DIAGRAM
Students compare their data and his/her friend's data . the data collected was about where they originally come from, and their personal information, such as family background and their age and hobbies.
