HOW WE ORGANIZE OURSELVES

Many products go through a variety of process before theyr reach the consumer

LIne of inquiry:

  • the origins of product

  • Changing products go through

  • Distribution of products

  • How  people select the products they use

Students are provoked by exploring some raw materials and products we provided in the classroom.  They might challange themselves to question where these products come from, how it made, and so on.

What happens in the classroom?

In this unit, students learn about the concept  of process and changing.  They need to come up with the idea that something can change into another forms through some process.

RAW MATERIALS:

Students brainstorm after exploring pictures, then share their prior-knowledge about related concept. They sort out all the informationa gathered from books,  movie, pictures and their prior-knowledge into 3 categories:

GROUND

PLANTS

ANIMALS

Some materials are used to explain the students about a process.  FLow chart is one of diagram we can use to record the step of making a product.  HOwever, they also learn to make a procedural writing in Bahasa Indonesia and English. Create a flowchart to describe the step of processing the products

PROCESS is a series of actions or steps in oreder to achieve a goal or en end.  In this context, students learn about the rpocess of making products.

Students visit some places to see how process happens to get the end product.  Watching some movies such as process of making toothpicks, clothes, or reading some books about the process of making jeans and paper enrich students' knowledge about the concpet of process.

After having an excursion to farm, students bring milk and cassava to school. They experience to milk the cow and harvest the cassava, as well as consume them at school.

The process of making pudding by using milk as the raw material is experienced by the students on the next day.

Teacher models the process of making or creating a product, and students record the process using flowchart

How  inquiry happens in the classroom?

Some books provided  in the reading corner, while  students are required to read at least one book to be retold or inspire them asking more questions or to answer friends questions.

Students write their inquiry or if they found an answer of friends' questions on the Questions Board. We visited regularly to gsupport the other students to be more inquiry and knowledgeable.

The FLOW CHART:

How Products are Distributed:

Students learn that products are made to fulfill the consumers' needs.   They brainstorm how products can be found by the consumers. Consumers can get products in different places, such as store, market, supermarket, book store, restaurant, cafe, ect.

Movies and books are read to the students to give them a picture about distribution, export and import.

SUMMATIVE TASK:

Students choose and create a product, make the procedure on flowchart, and present it in front of other classes on the Celebration Day.
