HOW WE ORGANIZE OURSELVES

 

 

 

PYP 4  students are requested and challanged to be an entrepreneur.  They have to think to open a business at the end of the unit.  So that, teachers provide them with several things that they have to know and learn in 6 weeks.

CENTRAL IDEA:

The supply and demand of goods and services has led to creation of economic activity.

WHAT HAPPENS In The CLASSROOM?

 

Provocation!

 

We conduct an an Enterpreneur Mini Conference.  Our parents' background are mostly enterpreneur, so it would be good if we build their curriosity and inquiry about enterpreneur is from their parents.  This is also good opportunity for their parents especially a father to start to open a communication closer with their child, especially to talk about their business. This activity is supported by Mr. Antonius Tanan, the director of Enterprenership in Ciputra. He leads the program and work collaborativelly with all PYP 4 teachers.  Parents are encoraged to support their child to become an enterprenuer on their future as them.  

A student presents his findings from the interview activities to his parents and other parents.

When a student and his parent are doing interviewing one of the seller in the mall.  They look for information about how they get the supply from, how they analyse the demand of the market, how to promote their product ect.

 

 

 

Learning Engagements:

 

The learning outcomes at the end of the unit, students are requested to :

  • know basic  knowledge of economic activity

  • understand the interdependence within the economic system

  • apply some business strategies

 

 

To achieve those learning outcomes, students are engaged into several activities, such as watching movies about economic activities, read some related books and have some discussions in small and big group.  THey are asked to identify roles of people in economic activity (producers, distributors, consumers) and how it works.  For the formative task, students need to make a flow chart that tells about how all stakeholders are contribute to the economic activities  (Deductive Thinking Flow chart to analyse where it comes from supplier and/or producer to consumer).  

 

Then they are being challanged to analyze price of products and services that  influenced by the amount of supply and demands.  This activity is really challanging, since they need to think more complicated.  They try to organize theri thinking using CARROL DIAGRAM.

 

The experience of learning is also being chaalnged by having KIDpreneur Fair at the end of the unit.  They have to make the budget planning, organize the stuff to open a business, such as  managing the capital, find the best deal for buying the supplies, and decide the price.  Students are also  preparing the place booking, making the advertisement through poster, flyers and brochures as well as the radio advertisement at school.  

 

On the day of the fair, students take a part in preparing the material and equipments, serves and calculatiing the income and the provit.

 

 

 

ISUMMATIVE TASK:

 

This unit summative task will be collaborate with the last unit "HOW WE EXPRESS OURSELVES".

 

Students make plan about their business and start to work on it in a group of 4-5.  They need to see the problem in their surroundings, and come up with the ideas to solve it. They create a business plan and think about the budget plan, and how to make their plan work successfully.

Thursday-Friday, 11th - 12th of December 2014

  • Apply thinking skills to develop strategies to solve problems in their surroundings

  • Select appropriate business strategies to promote their business

  • Develop self-management and social skills to create a business plan
